Object Analysis
Messier 110 (M110) is a dwarf elliptical galaxy and a satellite of the Andromeda Galaxy in the constellation Andromeda. Unlike its neighbor M32, M110 is more elongated and shows evidence of recent star formation and dust lanes near its center.
Discovered by Charles Messier in 1773 but not officially added to his catalog until 1966, M110 is located about 2.69 million light-years away. It contains a population of young, blue stars at its core, which is unusual for a dwarf elliptical galaxy.
M110 also possesses a globular cluster system of its own, with at least eight clusters orbiting it. This suggests that despite its small size (about 17,000 light-years across), it has a complex evolutionary history independent of its massive neighbor.
