Object Analysis
Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second-largest in the Solar System, after Jupiter. It is a gas giant with an average radius of about nine and a half times that of Earth. It has only one-eighth the average density of Earth; however, with its larger volume, Saturn is over 95 times more massive.
Saturn is most famous for its prominent ring system, which is composed mostly of ice particles, with a smaller amount of rocky debris and dust. The rings extend from 6,630 km to 120,700 km outward from Saturn's equator and average approximately 20 meters in thickness.
The planet has at least 146 moons, including Titan, the second-largest moon in the Solar System and the only moon known to have a dense atmosphere. Saturn also features a unique hexagonal storm pattern around its north pole, a persistent atmospheric feature that has baffled scientists since it was first observed by the Voyager missions.
